BQ - Barge Quays.

Most of the villages on the banks of the river have the remains of the old Barge Quays from which the farm produce was shipped to the towns and cities. Many such quays can still be seen and are marked as 'BQ' on this map. Martlesham Quay is particularly noteworthy, since it was from here that the local bricks were shipped on the first stage of their long journey across the Atlantic to build the White House in Washington.
